Palliative Care for Patients with Pulmonary Diseases

Overview

The American Thoracic Society and the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) have partnered to offer a foundational course series—Introduction to Palliative Care for Healthcare Professionals, Symptom Management, and Communication Skills for Serious Illness Conversations—to help clinicians develop core skills for providing basic palliative care to patients with serious respiratory illness.

These courses are designed to complement and build upon one another, with Introduction to Palliative Care for Healthcare Professionals as a starting point. Clinicians can then deepen their skills in managing complex symptoms and having meaningful conversations with patients and families. Together, the courses build practical, person-centered approaches that support high-quality care throughout the course of advanced lung disease.
